Dr. Evelena P. Ontiveros, medical oncologist, joined Cancer Care Specialists of Illinois in August 2017. Dr. Ontiveros primarily sees patients in Decatur at our main office at the Cancer Care Center of Decatur and at HSHS St. Mary’s Cancer Care Center. She also sees patients at our location in Sullivan at the HSHS Fields-Wright Medical Facility on Wednesdays.
Dr. Ontiveros received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and completed her Ph.D. in Immunology at the University of Iowa. She went on to complete an Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, and subsequently completed an Oncology and Hematology Fellowship at the University of California-Los Angeles and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Microbiology at the University of Iowa.
Dr. Ontiveros is board certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, and Hematology. She is a member of the American Society of Hematology and served on the NCCN CML Guidelines Committee.
Dr. Ontiveros has special interests in acute and chronic leukemias, Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), Myeloproliferative disorders (MPD), and clotting disorders. She is also active in research in immunotherapies for all types of cancers.
