About the Foundation

Pana Community Hospital Foundation History

Pana Community Hospital Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation established exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes to support and encourage health care services by providing financial and fundraising assistance for Pana Community Hospital. As the first chairman and each successor president of the Pana Community Hospital Board stepped down, a commitment to the hospital was still felt. Conferring with these people, a thought came to mind that some type of an endowment or foundation should be established to help not only with the immediate needs of Pana Community Hospital, but to also provide a plan for its future endeavors.

With this in mind, the Pana Community Hospital Foundation was formed. The Articles of Incorporation of the Foundation were issued by the Secretary of State of the State of Illinois on January 31, 1992 and were recorded in the Recorder’s Office of Christian County, Illinois on February 25, 1992. The original incorporators and members of the first Board of Directors of the Pana Community Hospital Foundation were John A. Metzger, Michael M. Trexler, G. Martin Dawson, Carol Chandler and Tom Phillips. Over the years, the Foundation Board has now grown and is composed of 12 – 15 members at any given time. In addition, a full-time Executive Director oversees the daily activities of the Foundation office and organizes various fundraising programs.

Positive growth and change for the Foundation have taken place since its charter in 1992. The Foundation receives many gifts, especially memorial donations. These memorials are a very generous and thoughtful way to remember deceased loved ones. Gifts are also given in the form of tributes to honor friends and family members on special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, retirements, graduations or any of life’s milestones that should be commemorated. The Foundation also receives generous funds through Gifts-in-kind, pledges, stocks, property, bequests, life insurance proceeds and other planned gifts. Without the generous donations and the generous people of the community, the Foundation wouldn’t be able to fulfill its mission.

In addition to the daily gifts that are graciously received in the Foundation office, several fundraising events are held, sometimes annually to garner community involvement. These include the Charity Golf Outing, Christmas Memorial Angel Tree, Year-End Appeal and other special functions.

Capital Campaigns

PCH BUILDING PROJECT CAMPAIGN

At the groundbreaking ceremony held in August, 2018, the Pana Community Hospital Foundation Board pledged to raise $1.5 million over a two year period in support of an historic expansion project costing $20.1 million. The building project is the largest expansion to Pana Community Hospital since the 1970’s.  Construction work began in the summer of 2018 and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2019.  Over 30,000 square feet will be added to the back and front of the hospital and will be designed in two phases.  Phase I of the project will create additional space for a new surgical suite, laboratory, diagnostic imaging, cardiopulmonary, materials management and dietary departments. Phase II will create additional space for an urgent care, improve access to the hospital building and provide a contemporary waiting area with private registration offices.

3D MAMMOGRAPHY

With advancements in modern medicine growing rapidly year after year, the ability to treat and diagnose illnesses and diseases can be difficult to keep pace with.  For a rural hospital, keeping up with the latest in services and technology can be financially cumbersome.  In 2015, the PCH Foundation pledged $200,000 to PCH for the purchase of a new 3D Mammography imaging machine.  Once again, through the generosity of the community, the Foundation was able to contribute over $220,000 to the purchase of this much needed equipment.

DIGITAL MAMMOGRAPHY

Many people have been touched by the tragedy of breast cancer. When Pana Community Hospital announced its plans to “Go Digital”, i.e. upgrade its current mammography services to the latest in digital technology, the response was overwhelming! In a very short period of time, The Foundation raised over $60,000 towards the purchase of the digital machine.

REHAB/WELLNESS CENTER

The largest fundraising campaign to date was for the state-of-the-art Rehab Wellness Center. The Foundation committed to raise $500,000 towards the $1.2 million needed to finance new 11,700 square foot facility. Once again, the community came together and donations and pledges for this project well exceeded the original equipment. Pana Community Hospital now boasts one of the finest rehabilitation, fitness and wellness centers in its area.

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

The first major campaign taken on by the Foundation was the expansion of the Emergency Department, with the official kickoff on December 15, 1998. The Foundation made the commitment to spearhead a fundraiser for the purpose of construction of the new Emergency Department of the hospital. The original commitment of the Foundation was to raise $300,000. The fund-drive was a tremendous success; and when the final numbers were tallied, the sum exceeded $500,000. The hospital moved from its 256 square feet emergency room to its current 2,469 square feet Emergency Department in December 2000.

Our Promise to You

Each and every gift, big and small, makes a tremendous impact on the success of the Foundation. All gifts are needed and deeply appreciated. We promise that your gift will be used responsibly and in the most cost-effective manner. If you elect to have your gift designated towards a certain fund, including but not limited to the Siegert Medical Equipment Fund, Hospice, Quad County Home Health or Rehab Wellness, you can rest assured that your donation will be used specifically to enhance and upgrade services in that area. Should you choose to leave your donation ‘unrestricted’, i.e. it will be used in the area needing funds the most, know that the money will be used in the area that has the greatest impact of advancement for the hospital.

Each gift will be acknowledged with a thank you letter, which also serves as your receipt. If you have cumulative donations, you may be recognized through one of our donor recognition programs. However, should you choose to remain anonymous, we will respect those wishes.
