Medicare Wellness Visit
A Medicare Annual Wellness Visit is a preventive appointment available exclusively to Medicare members, designed to focus on your overall health and well-being. Unlike a traditional physical, it’s centered on prevention and early detection—making it time well spent investing in your long-term health.
During your Medicare Wellness Visit, your provider will take a comprehensive look at your health by:
- Review your medical and family history
- Screen for fall risk, memory and mood
- Review medications
- Check vital signs
- Review screenings and vaccines
- Create a personalized prevention plan
- Helps detect concerns early.
- Keeps preventative care up to date.
- Supports healthy aging and independence.
- Gives you time to talk about your health goals.
What is an MAWV?
The Medicare Annual Wellness Visit is a yearly appointment with your care provider to update your health records and ensure you are up-to-date on receiving preventative health care services such as screenings and vaccinations.
Who is eligible?
All Medicare Part B members who have not had a Medicare AWV or "Welcome to Medicare" visit in the past 12 months.
What does the MAWV cost?
Patients pay nothing out of pocket for this visit. However, during your visit, if you require further tests or screenings, a co-payment or deductible expense may occur.
Is the MAWV the same as a yearly physical?
No, Medicare never covers a yearly physical. A physical is a symptom-free (no complaints) hands-on exam that is not covered by Medicare.
What should I do if I haven't had a MAWV in the past 12 months?
Call your provider's office and ask to schedule your MAWV. Talk to your provider about what you can do to prepare for the visit and what they would like you to bring.
