Pana Community Hospital Offers Transport Service for Its Patients

Pana Community Hospital  recognized the need for transportation to health care appointments well  over 25 +  years ago when Faith-In-Action, supported by Pana Community Hospital, was established and set into motion providing rides to doctors and dentist appointments and other personal appointments by FIA volunteers.  Additionally, Faith-In-Action offered several other service options such as light housekeeping, light yard work, ramp building, friendly visits and phone calls to shut-ins.  Through the years, the FIA volunteer base decreased and the need for transportation to doctor’s appointment dramatically increased.   The FIA Board realized that the transportation services provided by the final few volunteers would not support the increased transportation requests effectively plus the fact the two existing vans were wearing out and needed to be replaced.    In 2018, the Faith-In-Action Board Members voted to disband and transition specifically the transportation services and its investments into a new service for Pana Community Hospital patients named PCH Transport Services.  The decision to purchase a new wheelchair van and passenger van was the first order of business for PCH Transport Services made possible by the generosity of the Ruby June Munzenmaier Estate.

The availability of the PCH Transport Services to the PCH patient base has been invaluable to assure patients are arriving at their doctor’s appointments at Pana Community Hospital and the PCH clinics located in Assumption, Ramsey and Nokomis in a timely and safe manner.  Additionally, PCH patients are transported to their specialist in Springfield, Decatur and other outlying locations.   PCH Patient Transport accepts donation to defray the cost associated with transportation services but does not charge the patient.  The PCH Transport Services are facilitated by two part-time drivers and continues to receive periodic volunteer driver hours when needed.   For more information regarding PCH Patient Transport call Carol Chandler, Director of Business Development at (217) 562-2131 Ext.  383 .
