Hospital Services

The Pana Community Hospital Emergency Department is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by one physician and two registered nurses that are certified in CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Life Support, and Neonatal Resuscitation.  Many of the RN's have completed the TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Course).  A dedicated registrar is on duty 12 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist patients, their family, and other visitors to our facility.  The Cardiopulmonary and Diagnostic Imaging departments are staffed around the clock in case of an emergency.

Pana Community Hospital is proud to be an original member of the Prairie Heart Stat Heart program which is focused on idenfifying, treating, and transferring a patient suffering an acute heart attack within minutes of arriving to the Pana Community Hospital Emergency Department.  Once the patient is stabilized, patients are transfered to a hospital in Springfield where they can have their arteries "opened" by a cardiologist of the Prairie Heart Center.

In 2014, Pana Community Hospital became an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital.  This designation allows the local EMS responders to transport patients who are suffering stroke symptoms to Pana Community Hospital for their initial line of treatment.  For a patient suffering a stroke time is crucial and every second wasted can affect the patient's mental and physical ability for life.  Timely decisions can be made such as giving a life-saving medication that if administered within a 60-minute window can improve the patient's outcome.

In 2015, the Pana Community Hospital became part of a telemedicine program that allows the patients access to a neurological exam by a neurologist.

Patients needing a higher level of care may be transfered and those needing inpatient care may be admitted to Pana Community Hospital through the Hospitalist program which was implemented in 2015.
