PCH Resumes Surgeries, Other Services

May 22nd, 2020

Pana Community Hospital announces the opening of many services that were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic including surgery and other medical procedures.  Surgeries including general, orthopedic, podiatry, cataract and other procedures began on Monday, May 11th

“We are resuming our services and adhering to the strict guidelines established by the CDC and  Illinois Department of Public Health.  Safety is our top priority,” stated Trina Casner President and CEO of Pana Community Hospital.  Some of the guidelines include screening of all patients who enter the hospital, requiring masks be worn inside the hospital, limiting visitors, and requiring COVID testing for anyone having a surgical procedure.

IDPH guidelines also require that patients have only one support person.  This person is not allowed in the hospital with the patient.  Staff at the hospital will discuss how the support person will receive updates as well as discharge and post procedure instructions to pick up the patient.

Many services such as Physical Therapy, Lab, and Cardiopulmonary continued during this time, but elective services such as surgeries, mammograms, and other routine procedures were suspended.  “It is important to the health of our community that people do not put off regular exams.  Scheduling of annual scans such as Mammograms or elective surgeries such as colonoscopies is important to maintain good health,” stated Casner.

Cardiopulmonary Rehab Phase II is planning to open in June.  LiveWell Fitness has been hosting group classes and personal training throughout the pandemic online, which has been a great resource for members.  LiveWell Fitness will offer individual personal training and limited outdoor group classes next month.

The Pana Community Hospital Cardiopulmonary Rehab Phase III, LiveWell Fitness indoor exercise, and Harvest Café will remain closed to the public until further notice.  Services that remain suspended will open at the appropriate time in compliances with all IDPH and CDC requirements in place.
