Construction Continues

March 14th, 2018

Rain, frigid temperatures, and sometimes beautiful sunshine have not slowed down progress on construction at Pana Community Hospital.  Work is moving along on both the front and back portions of the hospital’s building project.

Iron workers continue to frame in the three-story structure on the Patient Services addition of the project.  This past month, the vertical steel beams were set and work continues to install the horizontal delta beams.  Steel framing for the structure will be completed in early April.  The flooring structure for the building is called hollow core, a type of flooring that allows more room between the ceiling and floor, which provides added room for electrical and plumbing in the ceiling area.  The first story hollow core planks are completed with the second story flooring structure to begin by March 15.  Crews will start closing in the Patient Services addition in mid-April.

The three-story Patient Services addition to the back of the hospital will create additional space for a new surgical suite, laboratory, diagnostic imaging, cardiopulmonary, materials management and nutritional services departments. This phase is expected to be completed in September of 2018.

Work on the Main Entry addition of the hospital has begun as well.  Crews are preparing the ground for future concrete paving located just in front of the emergency room.  The hospital’s fountain had to be removed for this work to be done, but the fountain will be back when construction on the front is completed and new landscaping work begins.  For now the fountain is being kept in storage.  Trees were also removed for the project.  The hospital will replace some of the trees with new ones as part of the final landscaping.

The Main Entry addition will create space for an urgent care, improve access to the hospital building and provide a contemporary waiting area with private registration offices.  Pana Community Hospital appreciates our community’s support and patience as we construct this exciting expansion project.
